Splice Sounds
Splice Sounds is a subscription sample library that grants a royalty-free, non-exclusive licence for every sound you download. The licence survives cancellation for sounds already downloaded, and plans start at $12.99 a month as of August 2026.
Splice sells sounds on a credit-based subscription. Per splice.com/plans, retrieved August 2026: Sounds+ is $12.99 a month with 100 credits, Creator is $19.99 a month with 200 credits, and Creator+ is $39.99 a month with 500 credits. Credits roll over while the subscription is active, and remaining credits expire 28 days after the final billing period ends.
The licensing is the part that matters more than the pricing, and Splice's own FAQ is unusually clear about it. Splice grants "a royalty-free license for every sound that you download from Splice Sounds." Crucially, "The sounds you've downloaded remain covered under the license granted to you at the time of download, even if you decide to cancel or pause your Splice Sounds subscription." You keep the licence and retain library access to re-download what you already took.
Permitted uses include commercial release, monetised platforms, sync in television, film and games, selling beats and instrumentals as royalty-free music, registering copyright in your resulting works, and combining Splice sounds with other material. Prohibited uses include redistributing the sounds as isolated samples or inside a new sample pack, competing with Splice or its licensors, using creator names or likenesses without permission, and — under-reported but explicit in Splice's terms — using downloaded content as training or modelling data for AI.
The nuance to hold onto: the licence is non-exclusive. You own the composition you built; you do not own the sound. Another producer using the same loop has not infringed you, and you should not register a loop-heavy track's raw source material with YouTube Content ID.
